This Cookie Policy explains how LibraryIsle uses cookies and similar browser-storage technologies on libraryisle.com and its associated services, including connect.libraryisle.com and admin.libraryisle.com.
Read this policy alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information more broadly.
1. What are cookies and similar technologies?
Cookies are small files that websites store on your device. They can help a website recognize your browser, maintain a sign-in session, and support requested features.
Similar technologies include session storage and local storage, which allow websites to store information in your browser. Cookie rules can apply to these technologies too, not just to files called cookies. ICO guidance
2. Why LibraryIsle uses browser storage
LibraryIsle uses browser storage to support features such as:
- Signing in and maintaining an authenticated session.
- Recognizing whether a session is still valid.
- Supporting account security and access to protected pages.
- Preserving an invitation link while a student completes sign-in.
- Supporting subscription checkout when an adult chooses to purchase a plan.
A cookie does not, by itself, establish a student's guardian relationship or grant membership access. LibraryIsle checks account permissions, invitation approval, and applicable plan coverage on the server.
3. Types of technologies used
Authentication and security
We use Clerk to provide account registration, sign-in, and session management. Clerk uses cookies to support authentication and session validity.
Depending on the configuration and domain, Clerk cookie names can include __session, __client, and __client_uat. These are provider examples, not a complete inventory of every cookie that may appear in your browser. Clerk cookie documentation
Blocking authentication cookies may prevent you from signing in or using protected account features.
Invitation and approval storage
LibraryIsle uses browser session storage to temporarily preserve invitation tokens during the invitation and authentication process.
The storage keys used for these flows are:
| Storage key | Purpose |
|---|---|
li-invitation-guardian | Supports review of a guardian approval request. |
li-invitation-student | Preserves a student invitation while completing sign-in and acceptance. |
li-invitation-manage | Supports review or withdrawal of an approved connection. |
These values support the requested invitation workflow; they are not advertising identifiers. The application removes them when the corresponding action completes successfully. Otherwise, they normally remain for the browser tab's session, subject to browser behavior and settings.
An invitation token's validity is controlled separately by LibraryIsle. Keeping a token in browser storage does not extend its expiration.
Payment and checkout technologies
When an adult opens subscription checkout, Paddle and its payment partners may use cookies or similar technologies to support payment processing, security, and fraud prevention.
Any optional tracking used during checkout must be distinguished from technologies necessary to complete the transaction. Paddle's handling of personal information is described in its Privacy Policy.
Optional technologies
Analytics, advertising, personalization, or embedded third-party features may involve additional browser storage.
If LibraryIsle introduces optional technologies that require consent, we will provide the required information and controls before activating them. Continuing to browse, creating an account, or approving a student invitation is not, by itself, consent to optional tracking.
4. Student accounts and guardian approval
Student invitations and guardian approvals serve a different purpose from cookie choices.
Approving a student's account or a connection to a parent's or partner's plan does not authorize unrelated advertising or tracking.
Essential authentication and invitation storage may still be needed to provide the student features requested. A guardian does not need to create a LibraryIsle account solely to review an approval link.
5. How long information remains
Session cookies and session storage generally last for a browser session, although browsers may restore session information when reopening tabs.
Persistent cookies and local storage can remain after the browser closes, until they expire or are deleted.
Authentication and payment-cookie lifetimes depend on the provider, purpose, and configuration. Browser-storage duration is separate from how long LibraryIsle retains account records, subscription records, or approval history in its database.
6. Your choices
You can use your browser settings to view, block, or delete cookies and other site data. Settings may need to be adjusted separately for each browser, device, and LibraryIsle subdomain.
Please note:
- Blocking essential cookies may prevent sign-in or checkout.
- Clearing session storage may interrupt an invitation flow; you may need to reopen the original email link.
- Deleting cookies does not delete your LibraryIsle account.
- Deleting cookies does not cancel a subscription or withdraw a guardian's approval. Use the relevant account or approval-management controls for those actions.
Where optional technologies require consent, you must be able to withdraw that consent through the controls provided for them.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our technology, services, or applicable requirements change. The updated version will display a revised date. Where required, we will request a new choice before using technologies for a materially different purpose.
